Violence Prevention Series

New York City | March - July 2026

Closing the Vulnerability Gap

In a crisis, the true first responders are often the people already on the scene: coworkers, neighbors, and commuters. Most people want to help but lack the specific tools and confidence to act before professional help arrives.

CitySafe closes this gap. Our training series provides New Yorkers with the proactive knowledge and life-saving confidence needed to protect themselves and their community.

Our Pillars of Preparedness

Our curriculum is specifically designed for the complexities of modern city life:

  • Situational Awareness

Recognize environmental cues and potential danger early in high-movement urban settings.

  • De-escalation

Master proven verbal and psychological tools to diffuse tension before it leads to physical conflict.

  • Defensive Tactics

Learn practical, legal, and effective physical skills tailored for real-world scenarios.

Powered by The Dwyer Program Partnership

This initiative is free to the public, made possible by the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program, funded by the NYC Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS).

The Dwyer Program focuses on reducing veteran isolation and suicide risk by fostering social interaction and community building. We encourage veterans and their families to participate in these workshops alongside their neighbors, strengthening the human infrastructure of NYC through shared service and resilience.
